Caseyville accident victim alleges other driver was intoxicated

A man has filed suit against the allegedly intoxicated driver who he claims struck the back of the vehicle in which he was riding.

Carlton Jones claims he was riding in a vehicle traveling north on Hartman Lane in Caseyville on March 12 when defendant Raymond Kivlehen Sr., who was driving in the same direction, struck the back of the vehicle in which he was riding.

Because of the collision, Jones became sick, sore, lame, disordered and disabled; received head, neck and back injuries; and incurred medical costs, according to the complaint filed July 2 in St. Clair County Circuit Court. He also suffered disability and lost wages, the suit states.

Kivlehen negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, drove in such a manner as to strike the rear of Jones's vehicle, failed to properly apply his brakes, drove too fast, followed Jones's vehicle too closely and drove while under the influence of intoxicating liquors, the complaint says.

In his complaint, Jones is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

He will be represented by Thomas C. Rich of Fairview Heights.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 12-L-340.
