Mans sues East St. Louis property owners after falling through steps

A man claims he sustained various injuries after he fell through steps at an East St. Louis property.

Michael McKinney filed a lawsuit July 2 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Stanley Franklin and SW Franklin Group.

McKinney claims he fell through steps at 1315 St. Louis Avenue in East St. Louis on July 5, 2010.

Because of his fall, McKinney sustained injuries, incurred disability, lost his normal life, experienced pain and suffering and incurred medical costs, according to the complaint. He also lost wages, the suit states.

Franklin negligently failed to keep his property maintained, failed to keep it in a safe condition, failed to dispose of damaged property safely, failed to repair a damaged stairway and failed to warn of a damaged stairway, the complaint says.

In his two-count complaint, McKinney is seeking a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs.

Mark S. Peebles of Peebles and Associates in Belleville will be representing him.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 12-L-343.
