Woman claims serious injuries in I-255 accident

Carlson

An Edwardsville woman has filed suit against the driver who she claims struck her vehicle while she was driving on the interstate.

Jane Steinkuehler claims she was driving a 2008 Jeep Wrangler north on Interstate 255 in Canteen Township on April 26, 2011, when defendant Douglas E. Belcher, who was driving a 2005 Freightliner truck for defendant East County Transport, rear-ended her vehicle.

Because of the collision, Steinkuehler sustained severe injuries, pain and suffering; incurred medical costs; and lost wages, according to the complaint filed July 12 in Madison County Circuit Court. She also experienced a diminished earning capacity, lost her enjoyment of a normal life and endured disability, the suit states.

Belcher negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to keep his vehicle under proper control, followed Steinkuehler's vehicle too closely, drove too fast and failed to reduce his speed to avoid a collision, the complaint says.

In her two-count complaint, Steinkuehler is seeking a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just.

She will be represented by Eric J. Carlson of Byron, Carlson, Petri and Kalb in Edwardsville.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 12-L-990.
