SIUE parking lot accident leads to $50K suit

Nelson

A St. Louis woman claims she sustained extensive neck and back injuries after the driver of a Honda Civic struck the Toyota 4Runner she was driving.

Loren N. Finnegan claims she was driving the 4Runner in a parking lot at Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville on Aug. 25, 2010, when defendant Ryan A. Schutte, who was driving a 2009 Honda Civic, struck her vehicle.

In addition to her injuries, Finnegan claims she became sick, sore, lame, disordered and disabled and incurred medical costs because of the collision. She also suffered a disability, lost her normal life, experienced pain and suffering and lost wages, according to the complaint filed July 5 in Madison County Circuit Court.

Schutte negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to stop or swerve to avoid a collision, failed to keep his vehicle under proper control and failed to reduce his speed, the suit states.

In her complaint, Finnegan is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

She will be represented by Robert C. Nelson of Nelson and Nelson in Belleville.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 12-L-950.
