Shop 'n Save sued over woman's slip on wet substance

Scoggins

A Belleville woman is asking for more than $100,000 after she allegedly slipped on a wet floor at a local grocery store.

Kelly Clifford filed a lawsuit June 26 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Shop 'n Save Warehouse Foods Inc. and Supervalu Inc.

Clifford says she was hurt while shopping at the North Belt West Shop 'n Save in August 2010. While walking down one of the grocery store aisles, Clifford claims she slipped on a wet substance on the floor. She says the fall caused serious injuries.

Clifford accuses Shop 'n Save and its owner, Supervalu, of negligence alleging they should have maintained a safer store or at least warned customers of the dangers of a slippery floor. She seeks more than $100,000 in damages for medical bills, loss of income and court fees.

Attorneys Mark C. Scoggins and Natalie M. Sager, of Columbia's Crowder & Scoggins law firm, represent Clifford.
