Driver accused of failing to keep proper lookout in Hamel rear-end accident

A man claims he suffered great pain and mental anguish after a driver rear-ended his vehicle.

Robert J. Mason filed a lawsuit June 18 in Madison County Circuit Court against Kelsey N. Kaleta.

In his complaint, Mason alleges he drove south on Illinois 57 in Hamel on Dec. 13, 2011, when Kaleta, who was driving in the same direction, struck the back of his vehicle.

In addition to his pain and anguish, Mason lost earnings and incurred medical costs, the suit states.

Mason blames Kaleta for causing the collision, saying she negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, drove in such a manner that she struck the rear of Mason's vehicle, failed to properly apply her brakes and failed to reduce her speed to avoid a collision, among other negligent acts.

In his complaint, Mason seeks a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just.

Gregory M. Tobin of Pratt and Tobin in East Alton will be representing him.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 12-L-861.
