O'Fallon Township High School has requested summary judgment in response to a woman's claim that the school allegedly withheld information about a former teacher's history of inappropriate relationships with students.
According to the 2009 Madison County lawsuit, former music teacher Matthew Lang, then 36, taught at Alton Community Unit School District when he engaged in a sexual relationship with plaintiff Mary Doe, 16, then a student at Alton High School.
Lang was arrested in August 2009 in connection with those allegations. He was found guilty and sentenced to prison in August 2010.
Lang was hired by O'Fallon in 1998 and resigned in January 2007, after the school informed him he would no longer be band director. He sought employment in Alton in 2007. Alton officials met with O'Fallon officials to discuss why Lang left O'Fallon High School.
Jane Doe filed suit against Alton, alleging willful and wanton misconduct, resulting from Lang's relationship with her daughter, Mary Doe.
She contends the O'Fallon superintendent and principal failed to inform Alton school officials, and, as a result, the plaintiff was harmed.
Madison County Chief Judge Ann Callis is assigned to the case.
Thomas Falb represents Doe.
James Craney and David Bub represent the O'Fallon district.
Lang does not have representation listed in the 2009 civil suit. He is listed as an inmate at Graham Correctional Center in Hillsboro, Ill.
