Injured passenger seeks $50K involving ESL rear-end accident

A St. Clair County woman is suing a driver she says is responsible for a rear-end crash that left her with serious injuries.

Shalondon Watts filed the lawsuit May 29 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Seth Kirkpatrick.

Watts says the alleged crash happened on Jan. 3, 2011 on State Street in East St. Louis. Watts says she was a passenger in a vehicle stopped at an intersetion. Watts says Kirkpatrick drove up behind her vehicle, failed to stop and crashed into the back of the stopped car.

Watts says the impact of the rear-end crash caused severe and permanent injuries that have required significant and ongoing medical care. She contends Kirkpatrick is liable for the cost of that care.

Watts accuses Kirkpatrick of negligence for allegedly driving too fast for conditions and failing to stop in order to avoid a collision. She is asking to for more thatn $50,000 in damages plus court costs.

Attorney Shaun M. Leiser of St. Louis is representing Watts.
