A man claims he sustained multiple injuries after a driver turned into his motorcycle.
Justin M. Stiles filed a lawsuit June 7 in Madison County Circuit Court against Dennis W. Rivers and United States Steel Corporation doing business as US Steel Granite City Works.
In his complaint, Stiles alleges he was driving his motorcycle west on 20th Street about 123 feet east of its intersection with Iowa Street in Granite City on Aug. 28 when Rivers, who was driving a vehicle for US Steel, attempted to make a right-hand turn. Instead, he struck Stiles's vehicle, according to the complaint.
Because of the collision, Stiles suffered brain, head, face, respiratory system, ankle and hand injuries and endured pain and suffering, the suit states. He also incurred medical costs, suffered emotional distress, lost wages and incurred property damages, the complaint says.
Stiles blames Rivers for causing the collision, saying he negligently failed to decrease his speed to avoid a collision, failed to indicate which way he was turning, approached a right turn from the left lane of traffic, failed to stay in only one lane of traffic, failed to keep his vehicle under proper control and failed to keep a proper lookout, the suit states.
In his complaint, Stiles seeks a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just.
Vito J. Manicioto of Hupy and Abraham in Gurnee and Timothy W. Schelwat of Hupy and Abraham in Milwaukee will be representing him.
