Three separate suits filed against driver who strikes vehicle pulling into driveway

A man, a woman and a minor child have filed three separate suits against the driver who they claim struck the back of a vehicle as the man attempted to enter his driveway.

Michael Gilmore claims he was turning his 2007 Saturn into his driveway at 1924 Bond Ave. in East St. Louis in Centreville on Jan. 4, 2011, when defendant Dorion Donald, who was driving a 2004 Crown Victoria behind Gilmore, struck the rear right side of Gilmore's vehicle. At the time of the collision, Natasha Hibbler and minor Mykell Gilmore, who also filed suit against Donald, were riding in Michael Gilmore's vehicle.

Because of the collision, Michael Gilmore, Hibbler and Mykell Gilmore suffered severe injury, pain and mental anguish, and were prevented from attending to his normal duties and affairs, according to the complaints filed May 9 in St. Clair County Circuit Court. They also incurred medical costs, the suits state.

Donald negligently failed to keep his vehicle under proper control and failed to keep a proper lookout, the complaint says.

At the time of the collision, Donald was driving his vehicle for the village of Centerville, which is also named as a defendant.

In their three-count complaints, Michael Gilmore, Hibbler and Mykell Gilmore are each seeking a judgment of more than $150,000, plus costs.

Blake G. Meinders of Meinders Law in Belleville will be representing them.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case numbers: 12-L-242, 12-L-243, 12-L-244.
