A police officer claims he sustained various injuries after a driver failed to yield the right-of-way to his vehicle, which had its siren and lights activated, and struck the police car.
Michael G. Brown filed a lawsuit May 15 in Madison County Circuit Court against Bruce A. Steele.
In his complaint, Brown alleges he drove north on Keebler Avenue near its intersection with Beltline Road in Collinsville on Sept. 7 with his sirens blaring and his lights flashing. Suddenly, Steele, who drove west on Beltline Road, failed to yield the right-of-way and struck Brown's vehicle, according to the complaint.
In addition to his injuries, Brown experienced pain and permanent disability, incurred medical costs and lost wages because of the collision, the suit states.
Brown blames Steele for causing the collision, saying he negligently failed to keep a proper lookout and failed to stop or slow down to avoid an accident, the complaint says.
In his complaint, Brown seeks a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.
Brad L. Badgley of Belleville will be representing him.
