Motorcyclist claims driver failed to keep proper lookout

A motorcyclist has filed suit against the driver who he claims veered into his lane of traffic and struck his vehicle.

Jason P. Raynor claims he was driving south on Barber Lane in St. Clair County on May 8, 2010, when defendant Richard L. Harper, who was driving north on the same road, crossed into his lane and struck his motorcycle.

Because of the accident, Raynor sustained injuries to his head, nose and face; experienced pain and suffering; and incurred medical costs of more than $25,000, according to the complaint filed May 4 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

Harper negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to keep his vehicle under proper control, failed to keep his vehicle in his own lane and failed to stop or swerve to avoid a collision, the suit states.

In his two-count complaint, Raynor is seeking a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just.

Michael S. Kruse of Onder, Shelton, O'Leary and Peterson in St. Louis will be representing him.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 12-L-236.
