A man claims he sustained severe and permanent injuries to his head, shoulder, back and neck after a driver failed to obey a traffic control device and struck his vehicle.

Lance E. Johnston filed a lawsuit May 2 in Madison County Circuit Court against Jason D. Lehr and KB Truck Repair.

In his complaint, Johnston alleges he drove a 2003 Ford F350 north on Arlington Drive and was attempting to make a left-hand turn onto the eastbound lanes of Horseshoe Lake Road when Lehr, who was driving west on Horseshoe Lake Road, failed to obey a traffic control device and collided with Johnston.

In addition to his injuries, Johnston experienced extreme pain, lost wages, became disabled and lost his normal enjoyment of life, according to the complaint.

Johnston blames Lehr for causing the collision, saying he negligently failed to keep his vehicle under control, failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to obey a traffic-control device, failed to reduce his speed to avoid a collision and drove without regard to the safety of others.

Johnston does not specify how much he seeks.

John M. Smith of Callis, Papa, Hale and Szewczyk in Granite City will be representing him.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 12-L-547.
