Child suffered facial burns during application of braces, suit says

A woman has filed suit against the orthodontist where she claims her daughter sustained facial burns during the application of her braces.

Lisa Davis claims she took her daughter, Taylor Davis, to defendant Brinley Orthodontics on Jan. 18 so that Taylor Davis could get braces.

During the procedure, however, Taylor Davis sustained burns to her neck and cheek, according to the complaint filed April 24 in Madison County Circuit Court.

"The burning of the child's face and skin is an occurrence that ordinarily does not happen in the absence of negligence," the suit states.

Because of the incident, Taylor Davis incurred medical costs for treatment by a dermatologist and plastic surgeon and experienced pain and suffering, the complaint says. She also suffered from permanent disfigurement, Lisa Davis claims.

In her complaint, Lisa Davis is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

She will be represented by John H. Leskera of Leskera Law Firm in Collinsville.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 12-L-534.
