Breast cancer diagnosis was delayed, woman claims in suit

A woman has filed suit against her former doctor, alleging he failed to timely diagnose her with breast cancer.

Carol E. Sager claims defendants Dr. Tehmton S. Mistry of Fairview Heights Medical Group and Dr. Christopher P. Graviss of Advanced Radiology Associates misread her mammogram in April 2001 and failed to order a sonogram.

As a result of Graviss's and Mistry's actions, the diagnosis of Sager's breast cancer was delayed, according to the complaint filed April 18 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

Sager suffered pain, mental anguish and disfigurement; was permanently prevented from attending to her normal duties and incurred lost wages and medical costs, the suit states.

In her four-count complaint, Sager is seeking a judgment of more than $200,000, plus costs.

Joseph A. Bartholomew of Cook, Ysursa, Bartholomew, Brauer and Shevlin in Belleville will be representing her.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 12-L-198.
