Seventy-two new lockers were installed Tuesday at the Madison County Courthouse to provide patrons a place to store items that are restricted in the building, such as cell phones.
"Put your quarter in, and when you leave, you get your quarter back," said Sheriff Robert Hertz, who oversees courthouse security.
"It's not a money-making thing. It's just convenience for those who have to use the courthouse,"
In recent months, courthouse security has been tightened.
Other than courthouse personnel and members of the Madison County Bar Association, patrons seeking to access the building must pass through a metal detection screening.
