A driver is asking to be paid more than $50,000, claiming an intoxicated driver ran a stop sign and caused a crash at a Bethalto intersection.
Andrew M. Smith filed a lawsuit against Shane McCoy on March 28 in Madison County Circuit Court.
The alleged crash happened on March 6 at the intersection of Erwin Plegge Boulevard and Ashbrook Street in Bethalto, according to the complaint. Smith claims McCoy ran a stop sign at Ashbrook and collided with his vehicle, causing a crash that allegedly left Smith with serious injuries.
Smith contends McCoy was under the influence of alcohol and speeding at the time of the crash.
Smith says the collision caused extensive injuries to his neck, shoulder and back. He accuses McCoy of negligence and asks to be paid more than $50,000 for medical expenses, disability, pain and suffering.
Attorney John H. Hustava of Collinsville is representing Smith.
