Harley driver claims he was hit from behind at Granite City intersection

A Granite City woman is accused of hitting a man on a motorcycle while he was stopped at an intersection.

Danny Herzing filed a lawsuit March 14 against Linda L. Thornton in Madison County Circuit Court.

Herzing says the crash happened at a Granite City intersection in April 2010. He say he was riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle west on 19th Street near its intersection with Cleveland Boulevard and Niedringhaus Avenue.

Herzing says he was stopped at a red light at that 3-way intersection when he was hit from behind by a car driven by Thornton. The motorcyclist accuses Thornton of negligence for allegedly driving too fast, following too closely and failing to avoid the collision.

Herzing is asking for more than $50,000 in damages for medical expenses, loss of income and court costs.

He is represented by attorney William J. Mateyka of Granite City.
