A St. Clair County man says he hurt his back when he fell through the floor while helping a friend move out of a Fairview Heights house.
Gary Remelius filed a lawsuit March 12 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against State Realty Property Management, Day Belle LLC and Ronald Suprenant.
Remelius the injury happened in January while he was helping his friend move out of a house on Richmond Drive and fell through the bathroom floor. Remelius says the floor was rotten and contends the owner of the home, Ronald Suprenant, knew that.
According to the complaint, the home was inspected on behalf of the City of Fairview Heights in August 2010. Suprenant was allegedly sent a letter from the City advising of the repairs needed to be completed on the damaged bathroom floor.
Remelius alleges the owner and the management company hid the defects to the bathroom and bedroom floors and is, therefore, liable for his injuries. He accuses State Realty, Day Belle and Suprenant of negligence and asks for more than $150,000 in damages for medical expenses, lost wages and court fees.
Attorney Chris Kolker of Belleville's Kolker Law Offices is representing Remelius.
