A woman has filed suit against the driver who she claims failed to keep an adequate lookout and struck her vehicle at an intersection.
Juanita Carter claims she was driving north on Frank Scott Parkway at its intersection with Tamora Lane in Belleville on May 13, 2011, when defendant Janell S. Byas, who was driving south, failed to maintain control of her vehicle and struck Carter's.
Because of the collision, Carter suffered severe injuries, was hindered from attending to her usual duties and suffered pain and anguish, according to the suit filed March 8 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.
Byas negligently failed to stop or swerve to avoid a collision, failed to keep proper control of her vehicle, drove too fast, drove without keeping an adequate lookout and failed to drive with adequate brakes, the suit states.
In her complaint, Carter is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.
She will be represented by Kenneth B. Beljanski of Brown and Brown in Fairview Heights.
St. Clair Circuit Court case number: 12-L-126.
