Marissa couple sues Emerson Electric over crash

A couple from Marissa is suing an employee of a Chicago electrical company for allegedly causing a crash in Fayetteville.

Sara and Robert Adams filed a lawsuit Feb. 28 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Shannon D. Cooper and Emerson Electric Company.

According to the petition, Sara Adams was driving her Ford Thunderbird south on Illinois State Route 4 in April 2010. At the same time, Cooper was allegedly driving a Jeep Compass, owned by Emerson Electric, north on Route 4. Adams claims Cooper turned left in front of her, at the intersection of Schickendanz Road, causing Adams to crash into Cooper's car.

The Adamses accuse Cooper and Emerson Electric of negligence and loss of consortium. The couple is asking for more than $200,000 in damages for medical bills, lost wages and court costs.

Attorney Richard G. Reed, of Belleville's Reed and Bruhn law firm, is representing the Adams.
