A woman claims a Granite City hospital released her private medical information without her permission.

A woman identified as Mary Doe filed a lawsuit Feb. 27 in Madison County Circuit Court against Granite City Illinois Hospital Company doing business as Gateway Regional Medical Center.

In her complaint, Doe alleges she worked as an RN at Gateway when she underwent treatment for an unspecified medical condition in August 2008.

At some point following the treatment, Gateway used Doe's medical records in an "educational setting," according to the complaint.

"Gateway and its employees had a duty to refrain from making a public disclosure of private facts about Mary Doe," the suit states.

Because of the hospital's employees' actions, Doe suffered great anguish, embarrassment and emotional distress, the complaint says.

In her three-count complaint, Doe seeks a judgment of more than $150,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just.

Eric W. Evans of Roth Evans in Granite City will be representing her.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 12-L-253.
