Construction worker sues driver over Route 158 incident

A construction worker has filed suit against the driver who he claims struck him as he was holding a stop sign.

Gordon Escher claims he was directing traffic on Illinois Highway 158 near its intersection with Centerville Road in Monroe County on May 20 when defendant Janet McMullan struck him.

Because of the accident, Escher became sick, sore, lame, disordered and disabled; received injuries to his left shoulder; and incurred medical costs, according to the complaint filed Feb. 17 in St. Clair County Circuit Court. He also suffered disability and disfigurement and experienced pain and suffering, the suit states.

Escher blames McMullan for causing his injuries, saying she negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, drove in such a manner as to strike Escher and failed to yield the right-of-way to a construction worker.

Escher will be represented by James R. Williams of Williams, Caponi and Foley in Belleville.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 12-L-92.
