Club Casino in East St. Louis sued over customer's fatal shooting

A St. Clair County mother says an East St. Louis night club is responsible for her son's death.

Brenda Jenkins, individually and on behalf of the estate of her deceased son, Brandon Deandrea Jenkins, filed a lawsuit in St. Clair County Circuit Court Feb. 13 against La Bon Vie Corporation, doing business as Club Casino. The company is also known as La Bon Vie, La Bon Vie Inc. and Sports Club Restaurants Inc.

Jenkins says her son was shot by an unknown gunman while at Club Casino in March 2010. Brandon later died of his injuries. Brenda claims the State Street night club failed to provide the proper security to prevent its patrons from bringing weapons on to the premises. She also alleges the club's staff failed to provide adequate medical attention to her son after he was shot and simply laid him on the sidewalk outside the club.

Brenda Jenkins accuses La Bon Vie of negligence and of violating Illinois' Wrongful Death Act. She is asking for more than $100,000 in damages plus court fees.

Attorneys John J. O'Gara Jr. and Julia R. Gomric of Belleville are representing Jenkins.
