A woman has filed suit against the driver who she claims struck the vehicle in which she was sitting after he attempted to make an illegal U-turn.
Melvina Epps claims she was a passenger in a vehicle traveling east in the 400 block of West Main Street in Belleville on Jan. 12 at about 10:24 a.m. when defendant Joseph Marino Zulpo attempted to make an illegal U-turn across double yellow lines. Instead, he struck the vehicle in which Epps was riding, according to the complaint filed Feb. 6 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.
Because of the collision, Epps became sick, sore, lame, disordered and disabled; suffered injuries to her head, neck, shoulder and lower back; and incurred medical costs, the suit states. In addition, she experienced pain and suffering, lost wages and suffered from a diminished earning capacity, the complaint says.
Epps blames Zulpo for causing the collision, saying he negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, abruptly stopped without giving an appropriate warning, failed to display his turn signal, failed to properly turn his vehicle and left the roadway.
In her complaint, Epps is seeking a judgment not to exceed $65,000, plus costs.
She will be represented by John H. Hustava of Collinsville.
