A St. Clair County sheet metal company is being sued after one of its employees allegedly dropped a steel plate on another worker's foot.
Donald and Sandra Kirksey filed a lawsuit Feb. 3 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Sudholt Sheet Metal Inc.
Donald Kirksey worked for a company that shared a facility with Sudholt Sheet Metal, according to the complaint. In February 2010, Kirksey says he was asked to help an SSMI employee move a 250-pound steel plate. Kirksey claims a forklift was not able to be used so he and the employee manually lifted the 4-foot steel plate, each grabbing an end.
Kirksey alleges the SSMI employee dropped his end of the steel plate causing it to fall on Kirksey's foot and crush it underneath. The Kirkseys accuse SSMI of negligence and ask for more than $100,000 in damages for medical bills, loss of income and loss of consortium.
Attorney Michael L. McGlynn of Belleville is representing the Kirkseys.
