Memorial Hospital named in suit over patient's ventilation

A woman claims she suffered grief after her relative died in a hospital when doctors failed to provide her with adequate oxygen.

Ana Blanchard filed a lawsuit Jan. 30 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Protestant Memorial Hospital doing business as Memorial Hospital.

In her complaint, Ana Blanchard claims James Blanchard died after doctors at Memorial Hospital failed to provide him with adequate ventilation and oxygenation on Oct. 2.

Because of James Blanchard's death, Ana Blanchard has experienced grief and sorrow and has lost his services, companionship, comfort, instruction, guidance, counsel, training, love and support, according to the complaint.

Ana Blanchard is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

Joseph A. Bartholomew of Cook, Ysursa, Bartholomew, Brauer and Shevlin in Belleville will be representing her.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 12-L-55.
