Suit claims mother and son hurt in Frank Scott Park accident

A St. Clair woman says she and her son were hurt when the driver of another car turned in front of them while they were driving in Swansea.

Shannon S. Homburg, individually and on behalf of her minor son, filed a lawsuit against Yolanda M. Hoverstein Jan. 19 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

Homburg says she was driving east on Frank Scott Parkway in January with her son as a passenger. She says Hoverstein was driving west on the highway and had stopped while waiting to turn onto southbound North Illinois Street. As Homburg neared the same intersection, she says Hoverstein ignored the traffic light and turned into Homburg. The two vehicles allegedly collided in the intersection.

Homburg accuses Hoverstein of negligence for allegedly failing to follow traffic signals and yield properly in order to avoid the crash. She is asking for more than $60,000 in damages to compensate for medical expenses and court costs.

Attorney B. Jay Dowling of Fairview Heights is representing Homburg and her son.
