A construction company claims it incurred extra costs to custom build a house for a couple who later refused to purchase it.
Renfro Construction filed a lawsuit Jan. 25 in Madison County Circuit Court against Kandis and James Gillis.
In its complaint, Renfro alleges the Gillises entered into a written contract with it in which the couple agreed to buy a custom built home from Renfro for $350,000.
James Gillis later amended the contract, and Renfro agreed to provide certain additions and improvements to the home at 7348 Kindlewood in Edwardsville, according to the complaint.
Although Renfro made the improvements, driving the price of the house up to $405,000, the Gillises refused to buy the property, the suit states.
"Such failure to comply with the terms of the contract and complete the purchase of the new home constitutes a breach of the terms of the contract," the complaint says.
In its complaint, Renfro seeks a judgment of $405,000, plus interest, attorney's fees, costs and other relief the court deems just.
Van-Lear P. Eckert of the Law Office of Van-Lear P. Eckert will be representing it.
