Disfigurement claimed in Greenmount Road accident

A woman claims she sustained severe injuries to her body, neck and back after a driver rear-ended her vehicle.

Jamie Schammel filed a lawsuit Jan. 6 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Kayleigh A. Webb.

In her complaint, Schammel claims she was stopped in northbound traffic on Greenmount Road in St. Clair County on Nov. 22, 2010, when Webb, who was driving behind her vehicle, struck it.

In addition to her injuries, Schammel experienced disability, disfigurement, physical pain and mental anguish and lost her normal life, the suit states. She also lost earnings, incurred medical costs and sustained an impaired earning capacity, the complaint says.

Schammel blames Webb for causing the collision, saying she negligently failed to reduce her speed to avoid a collision, failed to properly slow down, followed the vehicle in front of her too closely and failed to keep a proper lookout.

Schammel seeks a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

Matthew J. Marlen of Belleville will be representing her.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 12-L-11.
