Jersey County woman sues Vandalia Bus Lines in Madison County

A Livingston County woman accuses a St. Clair County transportation company of negligence after a bus she was riding on allegedly crashed into a motorcycle.

Linda Cox filed a lawsuit Jan. 6 in Madison County Circuit Court against Vandaila Bus Lines Inc. Court documents show the transportation company is headquartered in St. Clair County but operates in Madison County and other areas of the state.

Cox says she was riding on a Vandalia Bus Line carrier vehicle in Jersey County on July 22, 2011. Cox says the van was going south on Carlinville Road near the intersection with Miles Station Road when it collided with a motorcycle. The passenger says the crash caused her "to be violently thrown about the interior" of the vehicle.

Cox claims she received serious and permanent injuries to her neck, back and spine. She says Vandalia Bus Line is liable for those injuries because of alleged careless and negligent driving behavior. She says the van driver could have taken steps to avoid crashing into a motorcyle.

The passenger is asking for more than $50,000 for pain, discomfort and anguish now and into the future along with medical expenses and court costs.

Attorneys with Meyer Law Firm in Alton are representing Cox.
