Celtic Insurance failed to pay on medical policy, suit claims

A Madison County husband and wife are suing their insurance company for allegedly failing to pay for medical care.

Molly and Robert McAfoos filed the lawsuit Dec. 15 in Madison County Circuit Court against Celtic Insurance Company.

The McAfoos bought a health insurance policy from Celtic Insurance sometime before May 2010, according to the complaint.

Molly McAfoos says she was later hospitalized. The couple says their insurance policy should have covered the cost of the care, yet Celtic Insurance has allegedly refused to pay the bills.

The couple accuses Celtic Insurance of breach of contract and of failing to provide a reason for refusing to pay medical claims. The McAfoos are asking for more than $250,000 in damages for unpaid medical expenses and court costs.

The McAfoos are being represented by attorney Lanny Darr, of Alton.
