Attorney Mark Rabe of Edwardsville is running for election to the Third Judicial court and soon-to-be-vacant seat of retiring Circuit Judge Charles V. Romani, Jr.

His name will appear on the Republican ticket for the March 20 primary. He announced his candidacy Tuesday.

Rabe, who works as in-house counsel for Boeing in St. Louis, said in an announcement that his campaign will focus on how his experience will help bring the unbiased rule of law into sharper focus.

He is a 1986 graduate of Harvard Law School. He received his undergraduate degree in history from Southern Illinois University in 1983.

Rabe started working for the St. Louis firm Bryan Cave in 1986 in corporate law. He also gained litigation experience in government contracts law, white collar criminal defense work and tort defense litigation.

In 1991, Rabe joined the St. Louis firm SNR Denton. He continued his work in government contract law and litigation, including serving as discovery officer in a case filed in the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, Washington D.C.

In 1995, Rabe moved to an in-house counsel position at McDonnell Douglas Corp., later acquired by Boeing, where he gave advice on his employer's business, including contract formation, dispute resolution, internal investigations and regulatory compliance.

He has also managed, as in-house counsel, litigation matters in lawsuits filed across the U.S. and overseas.

Rabe spent five years as a member of the United Mine Workers of America while working at Consolidation Coal Corporation's Burning Star #4 mine from 1978 to 1983.

Rabe has been married to Cynthia Collins Rabe for 31 years. They have two daughters, Diane and Janice.

Rabe was born in Steeleville, Ill. and has lived in Madison County for 22 years.
