Man injured at charity event sues banquet facility owner

A man claims he became severely injured after he tripped over a deformity in the sidewalk at a charity event.

Gerald D. Jenkins filed a lawsuit Nov. 22 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against KAF, Inc.

In his complaint, Jenkins alleges he was attending a charity auction at a banquet facility owned by KAF when he tripped and fell over a deformity in the walkway that was hidden by a mulch bed and a bush.

In addition to his injuries, Jenkins incurred medical costs and suffered great pain and mental anguish, according to the complaint.

He blames KAF for causing his injuries, saying the company negligently failed to maintain its walkway, failed to warn Jenkins of the dangers of the walkway, failed to remedy the dangerous conditions and failed to inspect its walkway.

Jenkins seeks a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

Dominic Kujawa of Belleville will be representing him.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 11-L-647.
