A Madison County woman claims she suffered various permanent injuries after an allegedly intoxicated driver lost control of her vehicle, causing it to flip upside down.
Amber M. Howland filed a lawsuit Nov. 14 in Madison County Circuit Court against Cassandra R. Browning.
In her complaint, Howland claims she rode in a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am Browning drove south on U.S. Highway 67 on May 5, 2010. Suddenly, Browning lost control of the vehicle, allowing it to leave the road, according to the complaint. Browning managed to swerve the vehicle back on the road, where it traveled across multiple lanes of travel and into a grass embankment. Once the vehicle struck the embankment, it overturned, the suit states.
Because of the collision, Howland sustained temporary and permanent injuries and incurred medical costs, the complaint says. In addition, she has been prevented from attending to her usual duties, the suit states.
Howland blames Browning for causing the collision, saying she negligently failed to control her vehicle, drove too fast, failed to brake her vehicle and drove while intoxicated.
Howland seeks a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.
Lanny Darr of Schrempf, Kelly, Napp and Darr in Alton will be representing her.
