Granite City accident causes injuries, suit claims

A man has filed suit against the driver who he claims rear-ended his vehicle.

Clarence Olson claims he was driving a 1998 Toyota pickup south on Rock Road in Granite City on June 28, 2010, when he stopped at a traffic light. At the same time, defendant Richard J. Krumrey Jr. was driving a 2000 Ford Taurus in the same direction when he failed to stop and struck the rear of Olson's vehicle, according to the complaint filed Nov. 3 in Madison County Circuit Court.

Because of the accident, Olson experienced great pain and mental anguish and incurred medical costs, the suit states. In addition, he was unable to perform his usual duties, the complaint says.

Olson blames Richard J. Krumrey Jr. for causing the collision, saying he negligently failed to reduce his speed to avoid a collision and failed to keep his vehicle under proper control.

Richard J. Krumrey Sr. is also named as a defendant because he failed to instruct his son in the "proper operating procedures of the vehicle," the complaint says.

In his two-count complaint, Olson is seeking a judgment of more than $100,000.

He will be represented by Morgan Scroggins of Scroggins Law Office in Granite City.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 11-L-1154.
