Madison County jurors on Tuesday awarded $15,334 to a Glen Carbon woman injured in a car accident two years ago.

Carla Buckman was awarded $13,334, while her two children, Cristle and Cole, were each awarded $1,000.

Plaintiff Carla Buckman's attorney, Richard Sharrard, Sr. of Edwardsville, had requested $41,000 from defendant Frank Roman in the damages-only trial that lasted two days.

According to her complaint, Buckman had been southbound on Illinois Route 157 in Collinsville on July 14, 2007, when her vehicle was struck from behind by Roman's 2007 Saturn.

Defense attorney James Hodges had asked for an award of $15,500, as Roman had already admitted he was at fault in the accident.

Buckman was eight months pregnant at the time and was driving a 2003 Chevrolet with her two children in the vehicle when the accident occurred.

Buckman claimed to have experienced physical trauma, resulting in injury to her neck, upper back, shoulders, right arm and wrist. She was required to undergo post-accident tests to determine whether her pregnancy was complicated by the collision, according to her complaint.

Associate Judge Tom Chapman presided.

The case is Madison County Case No. 09-AR-514.
