A man has filed suit against a driver who he claims struck his father's motorcycle, causing the man's parent to be killed.
Alvin L. Williams Jr. claims his father, Alvin L. Williams Sr., was driving a motorcycle west on St. Clair Avenue in East St. Louis on May 24 when defendant Brendan M. McQuade, who was driving a vehicle in the same direction, attempted to make an unauthorized U-turn. While making the turn, McQuade struck Alvin L. Williams Sr., according to the complaint filed Oct. 25 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.
Because of the collision, Alvin L. Williams Sr. died. At the time of his death, Alvin L. Williams Sr. was 42 years old.
Due to Alvin L. Williams Sr.'s death, his next-of-kin suffered grief and sorrow, the suit states. In addition, Alvin L. Williams Sr.'s relatives have lost his services, companionship, comfort, instruction, guidance, counsel, training, love and support, the complaint says.
Alvin L. Williams Jr. blames McQuade for causing the collision, saying McQuade failed to keep a proper lookout, made an unauthorized U-turn and failed to signal that he was making a turn.
In his complaint, Alvin L. Williams Jr. is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.
He will be represented by Joseph A. Bartholomew of Cook, Ysursa, Bartholomew, Brauer and Shevlin in Belleville.
