The city of Belleville claims a lumber company breached its agreement to remain at a site in the city for 15 years.
The city filed a lawsuit Oct. 24 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Fischer Lumber Company.
In its complaint, Belleville alleges it entered into an agreement with the lumber company on April 19, 2004, in which Fischer agreed to remain at an unspecified Belleville location for at least 15 years. In exchange for the lumber company's agreement, Belleville paid $135,000, according to the complaint.
However, Fischer no longer operates at the site, failing to meet its obligation to the city, the suit states.
In its suit, Belleville seeks $135,000, plus costs.
Robert J. Sprague of Sprague and Urban in Belleville will be representing it.
