Godfrey accident is subject of suit

Two people claim they experienced emotional distress after a driver rear-ended their vehicle.

Ngat and Huy Nguyen filed a lawsuit Oct. 21 in Madison County Circuit Court against Hannah J. Sheppard.

In their complaint, the Nguyens claim Ngat Nguyen drove on Alby Street near its intersection with Humbart Road in Godfrey on Oct. 28 when Sheppard, who was driving behind her, suddenly rear-ended her vehicle. At the time of the collision, Huy Nguyen rode as a passenger in the vehicle.

Because of the accident, the Nguyens experienced pain, suffering, emotional distress, disability and disfigurement and lost their normal life, according to the complaint. In addition, they lost earnings and their earning capacity and incurred medical costs, the suit states.

The Nguyens blame Sheppard for causing the collision, saying she negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, drove too fast, failed to decrease her speed to avoid a collision and drove without adequate brakes.

In their complaint, the Nguyens seek a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

Tarun Rana of Mandel Granat in St. Louis will be representing them.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 11-L-1085.
