Shop-N-Save sued over customer's slip on water puddle

A woman has filed suit against the grocery store where she claims she fell on a pool of water while shopping.

Pamela L. Knight claims she was shopping at Shop-N-Save, owned by defendant Shriji Group, on June 12, 2010, when she encountered a puddle of water on the floor. Knight fell because of the water, injuring her neck, back, spine and knee, according to the complaint filed Oct. 24 in Madison County Circuit Court.

In addition to her injuries, Knight suffered great physical pain and mental anguish and incurred medical costs, the suit states. She also has been unable to perform her normal activities, lost income, sustained disability and disfigurement and lost her normal life, the complaint says.

Co-plaintiff Rick Knight, Pamela's husband, alleges he lost his wife's society and consortium because of the incident.

Knight blames Shriji for causing her injuries, saying its employees negligently allowed water to pool on the floor, failed to clean up the water, failed to warn of the pool of water and allowed water on the floor.

In her two-count complaint, Knight is seeking a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just.

Gregory M. Tobin of Pratt and Tobin in East Alton will be representing her.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 11-L-1094.
