Big Daddy's named in wrongful death complaint

A woman claims her recently deceased relative died in a collision caused by an intoxicated driver.

Sheryl Davis filed a lawsuit Oct. 21 in Madison County Circuit Court against the unknown owners of Big Daddy's Patio Bar and Grill in Edwardsville.

In her complaint, Sheryl Davis alleges Jeffrey L. Davis was involved in a collision between a 1985 Cadillac Fleetwood and a Kenworth Motor Company truck 520. She does not specify which vehicle Jeffrey Davis was riding in at the time of the collision, but does say he died as a result.

The collision occurred after Brittney R. Butler, who was driving the Cadillac, rear-ended the truck near the intersection of Illinois Highway 143 and Bender Road on Oct. 22, 2010 at about 4:46 a.m., according to the complaint filed Oct. 21 in Madison County Circuit Court.

Just before the collision, Butler had been drinking alcoholic beverages at Big Daddy's and was intoxicated at the time of the accident, the suit states.

During the accident, Jeffrey L. Davis was killed, leaving behind a minor child who lost his support and services, the complaint says.

In her complaint, Sheryl Davis is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000.

William J. Meacham of Edwardsville will be representing her.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 11-L-1091.
