Wood River bar sued over patron's alleged attack

A Wood River bar is accused of allowing one of its customers to be beaten up by a bouncer who had allegedly been drinking.

Eric Watt filed a lawsuit Oct. 4 in Madison County Circuit Court against DLC Investments Inc., doing business as Phil's Bar & Grill along with owner Donna Campbell. Daniel Tow is also named as a defendant.

Watt says he was a patron of the East Edwardsville Road bar in November 2010 when he was punched by Tow who was working as a bouncer at the tavern. Watt alleges Tow was intoxicated at the time of the unprovoked attack.

Watt accuses Tow of battery and claims Phil's Bar & Grill, and its owner violated Illinois' Dram Shop Act by serving alcohol to the bouncer. He is asking for an undetermined amount of money in damages for medical expenses, lost wages and court costs.

Attorney Steven W. Selby of Alton is representing Watt.
