Cueto won't seek retention in 2012

Cueto

St. Clair County Circuit Judge Lloyd Cueto will not seek retention in 2012, according to a report in the Belleville News-Democrat.

Cueto will have served three six-year terms at the end of next year.

Judges seeking to keep their seats run for retention and need 60 percent of the vote to be retained.

In 2006, Cueto resigned his position and ran for election rather than for retention. He was challenged by O'Fallon attorney Paul Evans, a Republican, who has since been appointed state representative. Cueto defeated Evans by a margin of 53 to 47 percent.

Other St. Clair County circuit judges up for retention in 2012 include Jan Fiss and Milton Wharton.
