A Madison County police officer wants to be reimbursed for a workers' compensation claim after he allegedly crashed into a car he was pursuing.
Brett Vetter filed a lawsuit against Jeffrey St. Clair Sr. Sept. 23 in Madison County Circuit Court.
According to the complaint, Vetter was chasing a car owned by St. Clair in February 2008. The car was allegedly being driven recklessly on Illinois Route 100 by St. Clair's son.
During his attempt to stop the car, Vetter crashed his patrol car into it. Vetter says he filed a workers' compensation claim with his insurance carrier and now wants to recover those benefits from St. Clair.
Vetter is suing the car owner for negligence and asks for more than $50,000 in damages plus court fees.
Attorneys William J. Knapp and Heather Mueller-Jones of Edwardsville are representing Vetter.
