Musician claims he was attacked at Granite City bar

A musician claims he was attacked by an intoxicated patron after he finished playing music at a Granite City bar.

Robin and Gigi Hogan filed a lawsuit Sept. 21 in Madison County Circuit Court against Gabby's Bar and Restaurant doing business as Gabby's Bar and Grill and Rusty A. Ziegler.

In their complaint, the Hogans allege Robin Hogan was playing music for the patrons at Gabby's Bar and Grill on Sept. 23, 2010, when Ziegler, who had been served alcoholic beverages, "assaulted and severely beat" Hogan outside the bar.

Because of the attack, Robin Hogan had to be hospitalized and to receive cosmetic surgery, according to the complaint. He required surgery to repair injuries around his eye; experienced pain, shock and anguish; became sick and disabled; and was prevented from attending to his normal duties, the suit states.

Gigi Hogan lost her husband's support and services following the attack, the complaint says.

The Hogans blame the bar for allowing the attack, saying it failed to protect its patrons.

In their four-count complaint, the Hogans seek a judgment of more than $200,000, plus costs.

William L. Berry of William Berry and Associates in Collinsville will be representing them.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 11-L-951.
