Belleville sidewalk blamed for woman's injuries

A St. Clair County woman is suing the City of Belleville after she allegedly tripped on an uneven sidewalk.

Carolyn Wilds filed the lawsuit Sept. 16 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against the City of Belleville.

Wilds says she was walking along South First Street in September 2010 when she allegedly tripped on a raised section of concrete, fell and hit her face.

Wilds claims the city was negligent for allegedly not repairing the uneven sidewalk and for not warning pedestrians of the potential danger. She asks for a judgement of more than $50,000 in damages for medical expenses along with court costs.

Wilds is represented by attorney Michael R. Swafford of Clayton, Mo.
