Back and neck injuries claimed in Foley Drive accident

Mendillo

A man claims he sustained back and neck injuries after a driver caused a multi-vehicle collision.

David V. Schrader and Carolee Schrader filed a lawsuit July 12 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Marquisa Griffin.

In their complaint, the Schraders allege David Schrader drove a 1996 Lexus west on Foley Road at its intersection with Foley Drive in St. Clair County on July 12, 2009, when he stopped at a traffic control signal. At the same time, Griffin, who was driving a Ford Expedition in the same direction, struck Melody Cummins's vehicle, who was pushed into David Schrader's vehicle, according to the complaint.

Because of the collision, David Schrader incurred medical costs, experienced physical pain and lost wages and his earning capacity in addition to his injuries, the suit states.

Because of her husband's injuries, Carolee Schrader has lost his society and companionship, the complaint says.

The Schraders blame Griffin for causing the collision, saying she negligently failed to keep a proper lookout and failed to stop or swerve to avoid a collision.

In their two-count complaint, the Schraders seek a judgment of more than $100,000.

James R. Mendillo of Freeark, Harvey and Mendillo in Belleville will be representing them.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 11-L-401.
