Woman sues driver claiming crash caused daughter's death

The mother of a St. Clair County woman accuses the driver of a Jeep Cherokee of killing her daughter in a car crash.

Apryl Sherrod, on behalf of her deceased daughter, filed a lawsuit July 19 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Andrew Fraticelli.

According to the complaint, Sherrod was driving her Ford Taurus north on North Illinois Street on April 15 with her daughter as a passenger. As she approached the intersection, of East O'Fallon Drive and Milburn School Road, Sherrod says Fraticelli, driving south, crossed the center line and crashed into her.

Sherrod says the crash caused injuries to her daughter that eventually led to the girl's death. Sherrod says she was also hurt in the collision.

Sherrod accuses Fraticelli of negligence and is suing him for the wrongful death of her daughter. She asks for more than $150,000 in damages for medical expenses, loss of income and court fees.

Sherrod is represented by attorney David Cates, from the Cates Law Firm in Swansea.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case no. 11-L-410.
