Catholic and Community Credit Union sues over unpaid loan

A St. Clair credit union has filed suit against a Columbia couple that it claims failed to repay it more than $50,000.

Catholic and Community Credit Union claims it lent defendants Jeremy and Sara Lane $59,859 on July 2. The Lanes agreed to repay the money in monthly installments of $568.59, according to the complaint filed July 14 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

However, since then, the Lanes have failed to make the required monthly payments, the suit states.

"That Plaintiff holds and owns the Note and, after all payments and set-offs, there remains due and owing from Defendants to Plaintiff thereon the sum of $59,087.27, plus interest at 7.90% per annum from the date of this complaint to the date of judgment," the complaint says.

In addition to the money it says it is due, Catholic and Community Credit Union is seeking attorney's fees of $250, plus costs.

It will be represented by Scott P. Hendricks and Cynthia A. Hagan of Hendricks and Hogan in Carbondale.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 11-L-402.
